Han Geng: Sexy Is Bright and Sunny
Every ere has sunshine idol, and now is no exception.
Han Geng is a representative sunshine boy who has become popular in the last 2 years. His smile is warm and clean, like breeze in spring. The moment he steps into the shooting studio, he greets us politely, quite young yet sensible. As the only Chinese member of Korean idol group Super Junior, he has thousands of fans overseas, which can be said to be winning glory for our motherland. In 2008, he comes back to China as the leader of Super Junior-M. It is said that many girls from China and Korea have something in common-talking about Han Geng.
The experience full of stories makes him healthy, fresh and has a heavy texture. How does he grow so sexy with distinctive new generation sunny feel?
Grew up in a small city in Heilongjiang Province, graduated from the dancing major in the Central University for Nationalities, Han Geng has 2 choices: go to Shanghai Fire-fighting Art Group with a salary of 5000 RMB, and a house; or go to audition to Korea when one out of 3000 people could make it. ‘I want to take the risk and try a wider road.’ He chose the latter.
Although he pales others by showing his ability and talent, the hard work has just begun. At the beginning, he went to Korea alone and didn’t understand the language. He was lonely and pressured. In the first 2 years, Han Geng’s whole life was company and dormitory. Only when 2 years later did he know where the most famous East Door in Seoul was.
Scarcely had he become the only Chinese member of 13-member group Super Junior when he received the notice that ‘Foreigners in Korea can not perform commercially.’ He had to wear mask when performing in programs except 2 TV stations. Han Geng says that he cried when he heard the notice, but he ‘didn’t want to give up. If he gives up, there will be no hope.’ During the following performances, he kept smiling even if he wore mask.
‘I am grateful for that experience; without it, I can not make it to now. I learn to hold on.’ After experiencing all difficulties, his eyes show that he doesn’t seek fame and wealth. Although quite young, women can find the sense of safety in his eyes.
Han Geng is timid down stage, saying that he is quiet, and loves to go to tea house. He hates to go to nightclubs. Once he has to go there for his friend’s birthday, he almost vomits hearing the shocking sound box.
But on stage, once hearing music, Han Geng becomes the glamorous star at once, which surprises his primary schoolmates, asking ‘Is that really you on stage?’ ‘I don’t know why. Maybe it is because that I am sensitive to dance, and I am quite open on stage.’ He smiles and lowers his head.
Han Geng says he is not talkative down stage, and don’t know how to coax girls. The most romantic thing he has done is to take the subway and walk home with the girl. He says that he hasn’t said any honeyed words with his ex-girlfriend whom he has love for 4 years. ‘If 2 people are in love with each other they should be simple and natural. They will have a close rapport with each other even without speaking.’ (Yes he has a girlfriend before, but it is over now, so don’t cry girls.)
However, when he is on stage, his passion and frankness is shown vividly and incisively. He can even say ‘I love you!’ to fans in an easy manner. He blurts out that sentence naturally and infectiously.
‘I can be cool, or cute, or silent, which will give people fresh feeling! Just because I am simple, and stick to one thing, the result will come naturally. This is my sexiness.’
Han Geng Q&A:
1. What will you do to court someone in 1 minute?
Dance! Dancing is really attractive.
2. What will you say to the girl you love to make her fall in love with you in 2 minutes?
Ah... It is difficult for me to speak for 1 minute, let alone 2 minutes. I don’t know how to court girls at all. I guest I will just say some jokes not funny at all. So, er, I haven’t found a girlfriend yet.
3. In the morning, what do you usually do to make yourself sexy in 3 minutes?
Bathing, brushing teeth, washing face, put on clean sportswear! My prepared clothes are at hand, such as in my bag or on the bed table.
4. What are you shortcut if you are surrounded by fans and need to show your charm on stage in 4 minutes?
Run while greeting; you need to run if you can!
Actually there is no shortcut, just harrowing experience. Once many fans are rushing in every direction, and many people are falling over. I lower my head and let the person in front of me lead the road. It is too crowded and the police hit me with his fist when he is stopping fans. Sometimes people hold boards and I don’t see that, so I got hit and see stars.
5. What’s your secret of keeping yourself in good spirits in 5 minutes after many activities?
No. I will try my best if they want me in good spirits! Anyway we all want to do our jobs, so I will try my best; thus we can influence each other!
6. How to spend your Valentine’s Day?
I will be working perhaps. If I am not working, I will spend time with fans, and have a mini fan meeting. (I think he is referring to the fan meeting in Wuhan. See the news here.)
