Han Geng: Huang Yi Is Too Old for Me

Many singers are now turning to actors and idol singer Han Geng is no exception. He has got his first lead role in year-end drama ‘Youth Stage’ which is shot in Beijing now. The drama, set in Beijing during Beijing Olympics, is an idol drama about 6 young athletes abounding in vigor and vitality who struggle and grow up and fulfill their dream.

In the afternoon, November 5, 2008, 12-episode drama ‘Youth Stage’ holds opening ceremony of shooting in Beijing. All the main cast including Joey Yung, Han Geng, Huang Yi, Zhang Junning, Yumiko Cheung, Kenny Kwan, and group Pretty Baby attend the press conference. First time shooting a drama, Han Geng plays the lead actor in the drama tailored for him. Han Geng plays a sunshine boy who loves dancing, and his father who is a top archer wants Han Geng to be an archer like him. However, Han Geng only loves dancing. After conflict with his father and self challenge, Han Geng becomes a dancing star after hard work. Huang Yi plays a girl living next door to Han Geng, and learns from Han Geng’s father and becomes an archer and competes at Olympics.

Han Geng says that when he was studying in Central University of Nationalities, he has a dream of becoming an actor. Later he went to Korea. Han Geng says that he is good at acting and if he graduates from Central University of Nationalities, he probably will apply to Beijing Film Academy or Central Academy of Drama. He receives acting training in Korea and has prepared a lot before shooting the drama.

Recently Han Geng and Huang Yi are spotted having dinner and playing billiards together by the media. According to the gossip magazine, Han Geng and Huang Yi are in love both in the drama and in real life. At the press conference, Han Geng denies that they are in love: ‘I have always called Huang Yi elder sister. She is indeed a good sister and helps me a lot.’ When asked how he feels about Huang Yi as a lover, Han Geng replies: ‘As a lover, Huang Yi is a little old for me. I prefer her to be my sister. I will never fall in love with sister Huang Yi.’ Han Geng also says that there are other people present when they were spotted by the media.

When asked what he thinks is the biggest challenge for him, Han Geng answers that other actors in the drama are his seniors. Joey Yung, Huang Yi and the director have taught his acting skills. He wishes to act in more dramas if he acts well in the first drama. When asked whether there will be love scenes in the drama, Han Geng laughs and says that he and Huang Yi grow up together in the drama like best buddies and therefore there will be no love scenes. It is interesting to notice that Yumiko Cheung and Kenny Kwan call Han Geng ‘Master Geng’ during the media interview. They admit that Han Geng often treat them at his mother’s dumpling restaurant so they give him the nickname. Hang Geng also calls Kenny ‘Little Bastard’. Since they are all young people, they will hang out after finishing shooting.
