Han Geng at 2008 Super Show Shanghai Concert (Part 5)

November 22, 2008 7:30 pm, the third stop of Super Junior Asia Tour Super Show is held at Shanghai Grand Stage. Because of the limitation of the stadium, the performing stage is changed from the double circle stage to main stage plus T stage. Other parts are the same as the Seoul concert held in the beginning of 2008. Fans hold blue fluorescence sticks in the stadium while 20 grand light boards with members’ names change the Shanghai Grand Stage into a sapphire blue (Super Junior’s representative color)sea.

About 7000 fans’ passionate shout brings the beginning of the concert. During the 4 hours, Super Junior sings many classic songs since their debut 3 years ago. Both singers onstage and fans plough into the performance. The whole concert is full of surprises.

The performance is indeed a ‘Super Show’.

Although Super Junior has performed on Chinese stage for several times before, they usually perform as guests. This concert allows members to express their singing, dancing, performing, musical instruments playing skills. The dance songs are swift and fierce, rock songs shocking the whole stadium, and the ballads soulful.

3 sub-groups Super Junior-T, Super Junior K.R.Y and Super Junior-M all sing their hit songs. Donghae solos ‘My Everything’, HENRY plays the violin while Han Geng, Shindong, Donghae, and Eunhyuk’s dancing show is really impressive.

The fourth song ‘A Man In Love’ starts the clothes ripping show. The previous songs make Super Junior members sweating, and Siwon becomes impatient and rips his clothes first. Kangin and Donghae follow his suit. During the following hours, ripping clothes and baring bodies become a common occurrence and fans are screaming all the time.

Super Junior members are all lively and willing to show themselves. When singing interesting songs such as ‘Wonder Boy’ and ‘Happiness’, 13 members Coplay as 13 different movie characters: Heechul as Pirates of the Caribbean, Eunhyuk as Bruce Lee, Han Geng as the prince in ‘Goong’, Siwon as knight, Sungmin as Peter Pan, Ryeowook as Harry Potter, Shindong as modern primitive… 13 members dance, splash water, fool around on stage. Leeteuk is even bullied by other members. Super Junior and E.L.F.s enjoy the stage for 4 hours.

During the whole concert Super Junior members change 5 costumes and every member, sub-group and temporary group also have different styles. As the most populous boy group in Asia, Super Junior members’ clothes changing becomes an important yet complicated step. Usually VCR will be broadcast to fill the time but the fans are as excited as seeing the performance. However, the 13 members have a distinctive advantage and they have shot several VCRs including movie, cartoon, MV etc. Members change their identities in different space-time but the fineness and completeness is the same. When the VCRs are broadcast, fans fix their eyes on the screen and are attracted by the various performances.

Since they are in China the Chinese interaction is inevitable. Besides the greeting, the members also say some Chinese words and short sentences. Kangin’s ‘hotpot’, Siwon’s ‘Are you ready?’ and ‘Have you eaten? Yes! But I haven’t eaten yet’ make fans can not help laughing.
‘Marry U’ is specially designed for E.L.F.s. 13 members in white suits sit everywhere on stage with microphones pointing at fans and fans sing the song while Super Junior listen silently. When the refrain is sung for the second time, the big screen shows Super Junior since their debut. Everyone join in the chorus and it is quite romantic and touching.

When singing ‘H.I.T’ OST, Ryeowook can not help crying and Kangin standing beside him hugs Ryeowook, and fans are moved by them.

It is said that Super Junior members’ parents are coming from Korea to watch their first concert in China and sure enough many familiar yet strange faces show up at the presidential seats. Towards the end of the concert, Super Junior announces that it is Eunhyuk’s mother’s birthday and everybody sings birthday song for her. Other Super Junior members also shout ‘Mum I love you, dad I love you’ in Korean.

After 2 encore songs Super Junior leaves the stage and fans are also leaving. However Han Geng shouts ‘Do you think it is finished? Not yet!’ The song ‘Miracle’ which is not rehearsed the previous night is sung as the third encore song which surprises fans.

During the exclusive interview, Han Geng reveals that Super Junior will hold another 2 concerts-January in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province and February in Beijing.

SM Entertainment announces that Super Junior will hold 2 concerts Super Junior The 1st ASIA TOUR-SUPER SHOW ENCORE at Seoul Olympics Park Fencing Hall on January 3 and 4, 2009. This will be the last performance of Super Junior Asia Tour.
